KPIC News: 4 Women "Trapped" on Their MissionAll of our hearts have been gripped by the tragic situation in Haiti. It hit closer to home for those with friends and relatives there, and even closer to those who have a spouse there. Such was the case for SGI Board member Wayne Graham. His wife, Linda, landed in Haiti along with three friends, just an hour before the 7.0 earthquake struck. Fortunately, Linda and the others had cleared the airport and were on the road as the devastation began. What started as a peaceful humanitarian trip to Haitian orphanage became the ordeal of a lifetime. With death and devastation all around, Linda, Kellee, Lisa and Julia became a triage unit on the soccer field at Delma 33 as they stepped into saving lives, bandaging wounded, consoling the bereaved and even delivering babies. The entire story may one day become a book! After an agonizing 24 hours, Wayne finally made contact with his wife. Hearing her voice assured him that she and the others were not only safe, but were a lifeline to the Haitians. They all soon realized they had been sent into that nation to help save lives. With a box of bandaids, Neosporin, and a few supplies, they became the only "clinic" many people could find. One father was so thankful that Linda delivered his wife's baby, he asked her to name the child. She named the newborn Judah, which means "praise." Strategic Global Initiatives Today, SGI is strategically poised to help Haiti. On the ground we directly serve Haitian organizations, churches and schools who are on the front lines and need immediate assistance for food, water, medical supplies and professional help. Quisqueya Christian School, Gerald Bataille Ministries serving 30,000 members of his local church in Port au Prince, Val's Children's Orphanage and others, are receiving donations and support from SGI. Your Haiti relief donations are used 100% for this purpose with no administrative fees deducted and all donations to SGI are tax deductible. Thank you for helping Haiti. Though our last few days have been sleepless, we are assured that we are making a difference on the frontlines of the most devastated part of the globe.
